An overview of various test methods of flexing durability for footwear

The flexing durability test is to put the whole footwear product on the test machine and carry out the flexure test with a certain flexure Angle and frequency. This test can comprehensively assess the after-changes of the upper surface, sole and bottom of the products.

1. Main test standards

To date, the major testing standards of the flexing durability are as follows:

  • ISO 24266:2020
  • SATRA TM 92
  • GB/T 3903.1-2017
  • HG/T 2871-2008

For long time due to the lack of ISO standard, SATRA TM92 has been the go-to standard for flexing durability test. The implementation of ISO 24266:2020 is now plugging the hole for ISO standard. However, this nascent standard has not been widely known to customers, who still hang on to SATRA TM92. In China, the test standard is GB/T 3903.1.

ISO 24266:2020 contains methods A and B. Method A refers to SATRA TM92 and Method B is basically the same as GB/T 3903.1.

2. Major differences between different standards

The flexing angle and rate greatly affect the test results, so the test results of different standards will be different.

  • SATRA Devicethere has a toe clamps
  • Flexing machine of whole footwear there has a flexing last
